Earlier today the Trump administration announced they are restarting ALL U.S. Sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the President Obama. Te sanctions will take effect nearly immediately, on Monday, and will cover Iran’s shipping, financial and energy sectors. This is one of the commitments Trump made when he was still on the campaign trail. Trump refuses to allow the United States to be weak on international relations, and today he put his money where his mouth is.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the sanctions are “aimed at fundamentally altering the behavior of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He has released a list of 12 demands that Iran must meet if it wants the sanctions lifted. This is long over due. Some of the items include ending support for terrorism, ending military engagement in Syria, and of course complete halt to its nuclear and ballistic missile development.
